Looking for a Beach and Park Cleanup Near You? Look No Further!
Are you yearning for some community service to do this summer? If you are looking for an ocean and park cleanup that follows social distancing guidelines, you’ve found it!
This year’s beach and park cleanup events are going to look a little different due to COVID-19, but that isn’t stopping AMC’s annual cleanup efforts. We want to invite you and your household to join us for our virtual annual beach and park cleanup event on July 25. Although we can’t meet together in person, we know that as residents gather small crews to help them clean local beaches and parks, their small efforts will produce incredible results. Here’s why you should join in the cleanup and how to do so.
Why Ocean and Park Cleanups Should Be a Priority
Taking care of our beaches and public parks benefits our beautiful wildlife, economy, and volunteers.
For wildlife, having a clean beach or park can prevent death and promote growth. In fact, the Marine Mammal Center rescues around 800 marine wildlife every year, many of which suffer from injuries caused by human footprint—including entanglement in trash. For the economy, cleaning our beaches can have economic benefits on our local communities . The cleaner the beaches are, the more tourists they attract.
So whether you’re heading to Decanso Park or taking a day trip to Sunset Beach , know that you are making a difference by picking up trash. And as an additional bonus, cleaning can be a great calorie burner!
How to Plan Your Cleanup
Now that you know the importance of beach and park cleanups, it’s time to gather the necessary equipment. Pack water, healthy snacks, and lots of sunscreen. In addition to those items, consider adding these to your list:
- Bags for trash and yard waste
- Gloves
- Litter grabbers
- Buckets, brooms, and dustpans
- First aid kit
How to Stay Safe during the Cleanup
Remember to strictly follow CDC restrictions and social distancing guidelines. Keep your crew small—if you invite people outside of your immediate household, follow the CDC’s advice by refraining from hugging and shaking hands. In addition, adhere to California’s mask mandate , and maintain six feet between you and others.
For those who are itching to participate in a local beach and park community service cleanup event, now is your chance! Join us on July 25, or pick another day out of the month that works better for you. Remember to drink lots of water, wear lots of sunscreen, and have lots of fun! If you post any photos on social, tag Summerwood Apartments and use the hashtags #AMCcleanup and #livehappy. We are so excited to see the difference you make!
